Survival Kit Contents

I think I have made it abundantly clear that the most important piece of gear that you can own in any given survival or preparedness situation is a trained mind.  If you have not had the chance to read and watch my blog and video you can check it out here.

Beyond that you need to practice with your gear.  One of the underlying themes for all the survival gear and kits that we sell here at Dan’s Depot is that they are two things multi-use  and can be used multiple times.

Let me explain why this can benefit you in your preparedness.

Multi-Use

When prepping and having on-hand survival gear you must consider its portability.  Simply said you must be able to carry it from place to place as you move to find and utilize the resources that are available to you.  If you had individual items for every need that arises you would need a truck to haul all your gear in.  That is why we have put alot of thought and consideration into our kit.  Virtually every item in our kit has multiple uses.  For example the tarp has many uses such as a quick cover, shelter, hammock, impromptu sleeping bag, litter for injured people, apparatus to carry materials for building more shelter, signalling device, trap for animals, etc. etc.  There are more but those are the ones that easily come to mind as I write this (because I have used tarps to do all those things).  Paracord and the knife are also parts of our kit that have dozens of uses.  The other items in our kits such as the iodine tablets have atleast two uses as well.  For example, cleaning water and using it as a wound cleanser.

In this way you are carrying, or have on-hand items that are not bulky and can be used for many, and varied uses.

Used Multiple Times

Our kit is built on tons of research and lots of time in the field testing equipment.  That is why you will constantly see our kit being improved upon.  We are constantly in the field testing stuff out.  I will be frank with you in that we have purchased and/or researched kits that are being sold as survival kits and we have found them to be full of “one and done” materials.  What I mean is that they have items in them that can only be used once and then you have it no more.  If you dependent upon items such as tube tents, foil blankets, and chem lights then you are going to be in a serious world of trouble when you need your gear.  Everything that is in our kit is designed (and we expect) for you practice and train with it.  Whether that is on a Nature Reliance School basics weekend or simply one on your own to test it out.  You will have a need to get it out and use it and see what goes right and wrong in using it.  For example you need to get the tarp out and practice setting it up.  We have blogs and videos to help you with such things.

The cold hard truth, is that only having gear is not the answer.  You must have skills and a kit to make it.  So when you buy 0ur kit and get out with it, use it, train with it, and otherwise practice with it.  Also if you find that is missing an item that you personally would like to have, our pack has plenty of room for you to personalize your kit.   This kit is good to go on many years of trips and practice runs.  If you have questions about how to use items then check out our blogs and videos on our Youtube channel.  We have many, many more coming your way to help you learn how to use our gear.

As always, I hope to see you on, or off, the trail.
