Our primary objective for the these blog pieces and videos is to pass on survival knowledge. Many of them will easily duplicate for simple good outdoor nature skills as well. That is the case today. Whether your desire is to get outside and do some bird watching, or you are in a survival situation and you want to use those birds for food, today’s topic will help you.
Birds (and all other wildlife) are no different than you and I, they need to have personal safety, shelter, water and food and they need it in that order. That is why most wildlife you see is costantly in motion and always looking about. Birds in particular seem to be in a constant state of motion. Catching them and utilizing them for food is not easy to do. However if you study their nature and ways it becomes easier to do, as does with all hunting and trapping.
As I stated all birds want personal safety, and one way in which they achieve that is through concealment. This is done through their plumage, which helps to camouflage them as well as were they land. If you spend much time in the outdoors you will notice that most, but not all, of the time birds will land in certain places. In the shadows, in bushes, or high in a tree with concealment. If you watch baby birds, they do not know this instinctively most of the time, they are taught by their parents.
With all that said, we shot this video to discuss some of the places you might find birds. I stopped to make the video because so many birds were in these areas and it sparked my interest to the do the video. However, once the camera’s started rolling and I started running my mouth…they quickly made their exit.
Come on, join in, let’s learn together!
